Getting the Most from Your Message

A clear, detailed email helps our advocacy desk understand your situation and point you toward the right information more quickly. You do not need to use formal language or know policy terms. Simply describe what is happening in your own words. If writing is difficult for you, a trusted friend, family member or support worker is welcome to send a message on your behalf.

What to include

• A short summary of your question or concern, such as an inaccessible building entrance, a problem with transit, or a question about disability rights in housing or employment.
• Where it happened, for example the neighbourhood, the type of service or the agency involved, if that is relevant.
• What you have already tried, such as complaints filed or requests for accommodation, so we do not repeat steps you have already taken.
• How you prefer to be contacted and any communication needs, for example plain language, large-print attachments or screen-reader-friendly formats.

Please avoid sending sensitive personal details, such as Social Security numbers, full medical records or financial account information, by email. If documents are useful, we can let you know what is needed once we understand your question.

What we can and cannot do

Disabled Citizens Alliance provides general accessibility information, policy context and referrals to community resources. We are not a law firm or a government agency, so we cannot give legal advice or make decisions on official complaints. For urgent legal deadlines, consider speaking with a qualified attorney or a legal aid organization as soon as possible. In an emergency, contact emergency services directly rather than emailing us.
