Accessibility for Everyone: How the Alliance Works

Disabled Citizens Alliance is a Washington, DC nonprofit focused on one practical goal: making public life work for people with disabilities. That means streets, transit, websites, workplaces, polling places and cultural venues that people can actually use, not just ones that meet a checklist on paper. Our work combines plain-language policy analysis with community resources that help people understand and assert their rights.

What we focus on

• Policy clarity. Laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act set important standards, but they can be hard to read. Our policy briefs explain what rules require and where gaps remain.
• Everyday access. Accessible entrances, captioning, audio description, wheelchair seating and clear communication matter in daily life, from medical appointments to a night at the theatre.
• Community voice. People with lived experience of disability are the best guides to what needs fixing. We encourage residents to share barriers they meet and to take part in public comment processes.

Contact the venue's box office or accessibility services before you buy tickets to ask about accessible seating, companion seats, assistive listening devices, captioned or audio-described performances, and step-free routes from parking or transit. Ask how to request accommodations in advance, and confirm details close to the date, since arrangements can change.
